Unwavering Faith

I've found myself in a quandary over faith at times. Have you ever compared yourself with other Christians? Why is it that some people judge your faith by your condition or circumstance? Often times we look at a person's situation and consider the result must be based on one’s faith exercise regimen or the lack there of. Have you ever judged someone because of their situation? Consider how you would feel if you had an illness or was struggling in an area and someone told you that outside of sin, your faith could be to question. Would anyone choose defeat purposely or withhold something to their own detriment? I mean, if they earnestly wanted a resolution. I’ve found, many of us have gotten to a point when we felt nothing was too hard for God, until. It is times like these that we search the heart of God seeking this "unwavering faith." Lord, it's my desire to possess the unwavering faith as described in Hebrews, one might say.

Let us hold fast the profession of [our] faith without wavering; (for he [is] faithful that promised; And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some [is]; but exhorting [one another]: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. Hebrews 10:23-25 King James

When I examine closely what it means to be unwavering in my faith it is evident to me that one of the struggles I face daily stems from the dichotomy of God's expectation verses my understanding of walking out this faith. Search any dictionary and "unwavering" is defined as possessing determination, being resolute or displaying the attribute of being steady, firm and constant. While I am convinced that I stand firm on the founding principles of being a Christian, nevertheless, I'm challenged with the expectation that to be "unwavering" in my faith includes the idea that I must be unyielding, tough and uncompromising in accepting the beliefs of others.

Most people will agree that Christians are probably the least tolerated group of people. I believe it has much to do with the world's conclusive argument of what it known to be true. Ask any Christian who’s been questioned in a secular forum concerning faith and you'll see that the arguments will always challenge the truth. So why do Christians place confidence on the truth vs. what is true? If you can't answer this question then your efforts to evangelize won't be effective. When something is true it is based on the state of affairs at that time, however truth remains unchanged regardless of its discovery. An analogous example of this can be likening unto man's quest for flight. For instance, it was true that man could not fly until 1903 when the Wright Brother discovered a truth. That truth is that there are certain laws that exist that man had not known about that would challenge the current knowledge of that time. It is this unveiled truth that permitted the venture of flight and aviation.

The same holds true for the world when it comes to faith.

But someone will say, "You have faith; I have deeds." Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do. James 2:18

I am comforted in understanding that God never intended for us to save anyone, otherwise, there wouldn't be a need for Christ or a work for Him to complete at the end of time. But rather, we are to be used as beacons to show the way to the unveiled heart that seeks to understand and comprehend the mysteries of our creation. Just as the Wright Brothers longed to understand something that could not be explained based on limited knowledge. But truth is based on God’s infinite wisdom. As I think of this it’s amazing how even with discovery in science we are still limited in explanation. Bottom line, this desire we all have to relate to our creator is birth not of ourselves but yet through the grace that God extended to each of us. The Bible teaches us to hold fast to our convictions and trust in the Lord and be ready to give an answer for those that seek the one true living God.

That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee? Proverbs 22:21 King James

It's this very faith, that is given from God that is constructed in us and reaches beyond even our own comprehension so that we may present it in demonstration of everyday living. It is an error to believe that our faith alone belongs to us. The very thought precludes the reality that the measure of our faith is dependent upon God. This mentality contradicts our natural tendency to be failing, compromising and succumbs to Satan and the sum of his many temptations. The consequence of this thinking may result in acquiring a judgmental attitude.

As I stated in my opening, my desire to possess this unwavering faith may very well be shared by fellow sisters and brothers who might struggle in this area of understanding of what it means to have unwavering faith.

Perhaps it’s true that many of us feel challenged in procuring the conventional definition of faith. But the truth is that this definition is short sighted in that it removed the biblical girding that we should come to trust. "Unwavering faith,” should be appended to such as being fully persuaded and possessing the truth established only by being resolute in God, who holds us firm and steady as our strong tower, our fortress and our shield.

Now, you might say I've met some very bold Christians who are moving effectively in the things of God. They are confident and bold. Why do I struggle with things others so easily accept? Why do some Christians’ faith flourish while others have become stagnant?

I've come to understand that this confidence is reserved for Christ alone. So as Christians we should never boast of our own confidence but yet be confident in knowing that the Holy Spirit has gifted each of us according to His will.

For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think [of himself] more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. Romans 12:3 King James

Say, I have the faith awarded to me through Christ which means it is not my own ability to grow my faith, but yet to grow in boldness that in Christ each of us possesses this unwavering faith.

We are more than conquerors through Christ who loved us Romans 8:37

The fabric of our faith is unwavering because it's not based purely on our demonstration of faith, but yet the knowledge that this faith is made possible by God. Who is unwavering. So in resolution, our persistence is determined by the intrinsic nature from which our faith is derived. You have faith! Your faith is sufficient to know that God is able to do ALL things, and through us we can rest a sure that our faith is sufficient when we couple our natural with His super. Commit our ways to the Lord.

The LORD hath been mindful of us: he will bless us; he will bless the house of Israel; he will bless the house of Aaron. He will bless them that fear the LORD, both small and great. The LORD shall increase you more and more, you and your children. Ye are blessed of the LORD which made heaven and earth. Psalm 115:12-15

May the revelation of God's delight in those who place their trust in Him increase in faith and strength as we are girded in truth.
